Cool Technology for Your Dog

August 17, 2022 • Product Reviews

I am a new(ish) dog owner. We got our dog, Indie, just over a year ago, and he quickly filled our home and hearts with plenty of joy. Growing up, we had a Scottish Terrier, but pet ownership is much different than it was back when I was a child (feels like an eternity, really!). Now, there is a variety of cool technology that can help make our lives easier.

So, in honour of National Dog Day, celebrated on August 26 (stay tuned for our charity spotlight), we thought we would highlight a few impressive gadgets for your pups!

A self-serving photo to show off Indie!

GoDogGo Fetch Machine

Do you have a high energy dog (raises hand as high as it can go)? If you have a pupper that is filled with go-go juice, then this gadget is for you! While it is on the pricier side, this fetch machine is sure to save your shoulders and your sanity when you can’t throw the ball any longer! With three time setting options, and several distance settings, you can customize the launcher depending on your dog. It is also powered by an AC adapter or rechargeable batteries, so playtime is any time. I am certain our Australian Shepherd would love this cool technology. Now, I just need to convince my husband!

PetSafe Smart Feed Automatic Dog Feeder

If you are, or have been, a dog owner you know your furry friend will remind you when it is time to eat by staring into your soul until the kibble hits the bowl! But, life gets busy and this automatic dog feeder will make sure your pup is fed on a consistent schedule! Since it is compatible with Alexa, you can feed your dog from anywhere and it also comes with an app that is controlled via your smart phone. It holds about twenty-four cups of kibble and offers a slow feed option as well.

Petcube Bites 2

Have you ever wondered what your doggo is up to when you aren’t at home? Well, wonder no more! With the Petcube Bites 2, you can check in on your pup whenever you like, from wherever you are. Even better than that? You can also dispense treats to them while you are gone. The video camera features a wide-angle lens, allowing you to check in from your computer or phone using the app. It also holds p to 1.5 pounds of treats, so you will never run out!

SureFlap Pet Door

I never realized how amazing pet doors were until I visited my sister, who has one in her home. Her pup can come and go as he pleases, without four hundred trips to the door for you! The SureFlap pet door is certainly a luxury item, but I am tempted!

With a programmable lock setting, you can select when you want your dog to have free access to outside. It operates by reading your dogs microchip, or you can purchase a programmable collar tag. So, when your dog needs to go out at 6am, you can unlock the door from the comfort of your bed, and away they go. For our Canadian winters, I can certainly see the upside to having one. Just as long as it doesn’t bring in any unwanted critters!

We could write a book on the plethora of gadgets available to dog owners, so these are just a sample of some cool technology we find particularly awesome. Of course, the needs of our dogs are simple, so these are more for the owner. But we are sure the saying goes something like… happy owner, happy doggo!
