880 CHED Santas Anonymous has a very clear goal: to ensure every child wakes up to the joy of a new toy on Christmas morning. Founded in 1955, by Jerry Forbes, that mission continues to be a driving force in providing holiday magic to children in need in Edmonton.
Santas Anonymous depends on thousands of donors and volunteers as they deliver toys to thousands of children every year. Keep reading to find out more about the holiday spirit they bring to our community and how you can help support their efforts!
About 880 CHED Santas Anonymous
Santas Anonymous is celebrating 70 years! It all began in 1955, when CHED radio host Jerry Forbes put out a call asking listeners to help make sure every child could have a Christmas gift. What started as one man’s idea has grown into a beloved Edmonton tradition, helping more than 25,000 children each year.
Each December, thousands of volunteers come together to sort, package, and deliver toys to children from newborns to age 12.
Each toy package includes two toys, a book, and a teddy bear, chosen with care for each child’s age.
Many of their volunteers have made Santas Anonymous part of their own family traditions; some have been delivering toys for decades, often with kids and grandkids joining in.

How You Can Help
To help bring the joy of Christmas to those who need it most, consider the following:
- Donate new, unwrapped toys at any drop-off location across the city. You can also find a list of most-needed toys here.
- Make a monetary donation to help fill the gaps and make sure every child receives something special.
- Host a Toy Drive! Band together with your company or group or host a special event to put more toys into the hands of local children. Find more information by clicking here.
- Volunteer your time to help sort, wrap, or deliver toys. This is one of the most rewarding ways to spend the holiday season.
Mark Your Calendars!
It won’t be long until the sights and sounds of the holidays fill the city!
Be sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
- Santas Day on 880 CHED will take place on December 10! This is their annual radiothon in early December, where listeners, volunteers, and donors come together to help fill Santa’s sleigh.
- Santas Anonymous has a new volunteer opportunity at the YEG Christmas Market this year at Fort Edmonton Park. This is an excellent opportunity for families and groups to get involved! Find out more by clicking here.
