AdaptAbilities

Happy New Year!  

We are certainly excited for the upcoming year and featuring many more charities over the next 12 months. To kick off 2024, we are excited to feature AdaptAbilities as our charity spotlight. We invite you to read more on the impactful work they do for our community, and how you can help support their efforts. 

Who are they? 

AdaptAbilities creates possibilities for individuals with diverse abilities and their families by delivering essential programs. They create a place where friendships are made, and where individuals and their families grow, succeed, and belong.  

Serving the community, AdaptAbilities is a non-profit organization that makes a positive impact on the entire family. Children and adults with diverse abilities thrive in their programs and their families get an essential break from caregiving to live, work and support their own well-being. The community includes a spectrum of diverse abilities, where they champion inclusion for kids and adults living with visible and invisible disabilities. 

AdaptAbilities offers a variety of programs such as: 

• Centre based programs: goal-oriented year-round respite programs are thoughtfully organized by Community Specialists to provide participants with an inclusive space to learn and grow. 
• In home services: they understand that some participants are more comfortable in their own home than at the centres. 
• Hearts in Action Summer Camps: create amazing possibilities for the best summer ever. 

“Founded in 2004, AdaptAbilities has supported over 2,500 families in Edmonton as part of our vision to be the leading provider of enhanced respite care in Alberta. Our goal is to serve 10,000 individuals and their families by 2030!” 

Their impact 

AdaptAbilites has had, and continues to have, an incredible impact not only on the lives of their participants but also in the greater community that surrounds their families who benefit from their services.  

From increased happiness and emotional well-being to new friendships and a sense of belonging, the impact AdaptAbilites cannot be understated. How can you help? 

AdaptAbilities is always grateful for donations. Currently, they are looking to purchase a used van to transport programming equipment across various locations in the Edmonton area. The hope is to raise $5,000 via crowdfunding to offset the initial two years’ costs, including insurance, maintenance, and fuel. Having access to a reliable vehicle is a necessity for their team to get to program locations efficiently.

They are also always looking for volunteers to join their team! If there aren’t any current opportunities when you apply, your information will be kept on file for when they do. If you are interested in making a difference, reach out to their team today. 

Upcoming events  

Mark your calendars! Their Annual Breakfast will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Those interested can register via their website at https://adaptabilities.ca/breakfast/. This exciting event is an opportunity to network and hear stories of inspiration and big impact. Those attending are encouraged to come hungry and leave inspired!
