If you paid close attention to the news this summer, especially during K-Days, you likely heard about an incredible event that took fundraising for Alberta Dreams to new heights…literally! This month, we want to share about the impactful work this organization is providing to children with severe chronic, or life-threatening medical conditions in our community. Keep reading to find out more and how you can help make a difference. 

About Alberta Dreams 

Alberta Dreams is the only dream-fulfilling organization in Alberta that is dedicated exclusively to children with severe chronic or life-threatening medical illness. They are proud to provide a much-needed service to children and their families who are facing unimaginable challenges.   

Alberta Dreams understand the impact that chronic illness can have on a child’s daily life. They define chronic illness as a medical condition that significantly affects a child’s ability to carry out their daily activities. This impact can result from several factors such as frequent hospital stays, use of oxygen and/or ventilator machines, high doses of medications, or the need for significant medical intervention. 

Their inclusion of chronic illness in the Alberta Dreams mandate sets them apart from similar organizations in Canada. They are a crucial resource for chronically ill children who do not qualify for a wish under other programs.  

Alberta Dreams believes that every child deserves a chance to experience the joy of having their dream come true and is an essential resource for chronically ill children in Alberta. In its 39 years, they have fulfilled over 1215 dreams for children, and are excited for their 40th anniversary in 2026 to see just how much they can accomplish. 

Recent Events 

WHEEL OF DREAMS 

This past summer, Alberta Dreams was thrilled to partner with K-Days in Edmonton. Chris Scheetz from Alberta Dreams broke the record for “hours on an amusement park ride” as he rode the Ferris Wheel for 54 hours. Thanks to sponsors and the public, over $70,000 was raised. Many of the Alberta Dreams families were able to ride along with Chris those 3 days.  

ALBERTA DREAMS: MEMORIES, MUSIC & MAZE ALUMNI EVENT 

At the end of August, Alberta Dreams welcomed back dream recipients and their families for a special alumni celebration at the Edmonton Corn Maze. Presented by Freson Bros, the event was filled with laughter, connection, and incredible live music from Delta Sweet and The Prairie States. Families enjoyed navigating the maze, sharing stories, and reflecting on their dream experiences while creating new memories together. 

They were grateful to have Horizon Ag & Turf on-site with a giant John Deere tractor which provided an exciting photo opportunity for the kids as well as Stawnichy’s Mundare Sausage who generously provided hotdogs and Kuby burgers for the BBQ. 

SWING FOR DREAMS 

Alberta Dreams’ annual Swing Fore Dreams Golf Tournament brought together community members, sponsors, and supporters for a day of friendly competition and fundraising. Hosted at the Glendale Golf and Country Club, the event helped raise funds to grant future dreams for Alberta children. 

Thanks to the incredible generosity of participants and sponsors and matching support through the Rogers Birdies for Kids program, the event not only celebrated community spirit but also ensured that even more dreams can come true. 

How Can You Help? 

There are many ways to get involved with Alberta Dreams!  

Individuals and organizations can: 

• Become an Event Sponsor to help bring dreams to life. 

• Volunteer at Events like our Daddy’s Little Sweetheart Ball, Swing Fore Dreams or other fun events. 

• Provide in-kind donations such as raffle prizes or auction items.  

• Be part of our 100 Moms & 100 Dads Dreams Program 

• Host a Fundraiser 

• Provide Bottle donations through Skip the Depot
