We must prepare you for some adorable puppy faces you are about to see! This month, we are excited to highlight the awesome organization Dogs With Wings. So, if you can stand the cuteness, we encourage you to keep reading.
About their work
Dogs With Wings breeds, raises, trains, and provides placement for highly trained Assistance Dogs within Western Canada.
Dogs With Wings provides three programs:
- Mobility Service
Mobility Service Dogs assist people with physical disabilities to enhance their quality of life and achieve greater independence.
- Autism Service
Autism Service Dogs provide greater safety and independence for children with Autism.
- Facility Dogs
Facility Dogs provide goal-directed interventions, which fosters enhancement in physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise within the scope of practice of their profession. These dogs may work in a variety of settings, either through groups or with individuals.
Each Assistance Dog has an average working career of eight years. A Facility Dog can help support upwards of 250-1,000 unique individuals per year, meaning one Facility Dog can help anywhere from 2,000-8000 people in their working life!
It takes 24-36 months to fully train each Assistance Dog, and the cost of this training is over $40,000 each! Yet, Dogs With Wings places these dogs with their clients for as little as $1.
How you can help
As a non-profit organization, with little to no sustainable Government funding, Dogs With Wings relies on the goodwill and support of their community to continue its mission of placing highly trained Assistance Dogs with individuals and social service agencies.
No amount is too small to make a difference!
They greatly depend on their amazing volunteers and are always looking for new people to join. Dogs With Wings urgently needs puppy raisers and is continually searching for advanced raisers, boarding homes, event volunteers, and office support.

Dogs With Wings runs events throughout the year, which are always posted on their social media platforms Instagram and Facebook. Be sure to give them a follow to stay up to date and share with your friends and family to help bring awareness to others!
In July, they will have multiple dates for puppy yoga with their newest Bug-themed litter of puppies. More details to come, so be sure to stay tuned!
Dogs With Wings have recently opened ticket sales to their signature fundraising event, the Raise our Wings Gala on October 5, 2024 at the Edmonton Expo Centre. Purchase your tickets here. Proceeds of this event support Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society.
