Giving the Gift of Reading

The Inspiration

In November, our President, Derrick Meyer visited the Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch. When they reached one room, the library, he was saddened by the fact that so few children who attend the ranch have never been given the gift of a new book. Because of that interaction, we decided to help. So, the Digital Link Book Drive was born! And, what an amazing adventure it has been.

Community Support For The Win

We had over a dozen drop off locations sprinkled throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas. It wasn’t long before word spread, and the donations poured in. And when we say pour in, we mean it! Derrick’s office began to look like a book storage facility.

The mountain of books continued to grow at our office, as well as at the drop off locations. On Wednesday, December 18, we collected the books from the drop off locations, and were blown away by the generosity of others. Our team then rested up our arms for the next day when we would deliver all the books to the Be Brave Ranch.

Delivering the Books

After loading the books into the van (thanks again, Brian Cyr!), we estimate that we collected between 8,000-10,000 books. A book was even sent from Ireland.

Wow! To say that number exceeded our expectations is an understatement.

We then had the absolute joy to deliver the books to the ranch. It was an emotional morning!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Little Warriors, they are a national, charitable organization based in Alberta, focused on the awareness, prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. They also advocate on behalf of and with child sexual abuse survivors. These books will be loved and cherished by these children and we are beyond grateful for the outpouring of donations that helped make this happen. The library at the ranch will likely quadruple in size thanks to the new books!

Our goal of the book drive was to give the gift of reading to these very deserving children. And, it fills our hearts with love and gratitude that we were able to make this happen.

We want to say thank you again to everyone who donated, and to our drop off locations for all your support and donations. What a wonderful way to spend the week before Christmas! We look forward to more opportunities to give back to our community in the new year.
