Mental Health Foundation

May 29, 2025 • Charity Spotlight

As we wrap up May, we are excited to highlight another non-profit organization making a difference in our community, the Mental Health Foundation. Please read on to find out more about the impact they make, and how you can help support their cause.

About the Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation raises funds to support mental illness and addictions across Alberta. Unlike a hospital foundation they are uniquely and strategically focused on supporting local and province-wide addiction and mental health integrated methods of care, research and education. Their efforts accelerate the discovery and adoption of leading mental illness research, ultimately improving patient experiences and outcomes.

Their mission remains clear: ensure the 1 in 5 Albertans living with mental illness or addictions reach their best possible mental health.

“Mental illness and addictions affect 1 in 5, and 50% of Albertan adults will experience a mental health challenge by the time they are 40.” –Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation began as a small hospital foundation founded by doctors to support the Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE) and, over the last 26 years, has grown to become the foundation it is today. It has been instrumental in some significant advancements in the mental health space and have been proud supporters of the development and growth of programs like Kickstand Integrated Youth Services, Access 24/7, AHE Day Hospital, RTMS (a non-invasive stimulation of brain tissue), and Text4Hope.

How you Can Help

There are three main ways to support the Mental Health Foundation:

Becoming a donor is critical to their work. The more dollars they can raise, the more impact they can create across Alberta, making a difference to those who need their services most. To donate, please click here, or to learn about different ways to give please click here.

Second, volunteering is a meaningful way contribute. It’s an excellent way for individuals, businesses and communities to get involved and make a lasting impact on someone who is struggling. If you are interested in giving your time, please click here.

Lastly, but certainly not least, continue the conversation. Talking about mental health helps break the stigma. We all rely on our mental well-being to have healthy and thriving communities. By raising awareness and normalizing these conversations, we can get to a place where no one is left behind.
