6 Social Media Trends Businesses Should Watch: End of 2020 Quarter 1

March 6, 2020 • Social Media

March marks the last month in Quarter 1 for 2020.Today, we see some social media trends from 2019 continue to evolve like video, but we also see some new innovations at the forefront. Here are six trends we are excited for and believe will help your business.

Video Remains King

Video has risen to be the king of posts over images, text, links, etc. over the past few years, and this trend looks to become stronger. Cisco systems produced a study saying by 2022, 82% of all online content will be video. We highly suggest considering a video strategy for your social media plans this year. We believe so much in the importance of video, we now have a video department to offer our clients greater service.

Influencer Marketing Will Grow

The use of influencers with large followings to promote products and service is on the rise. Using influencers can be a great way to dip your toes into the world of social media advertising. If you decide to use influencers, make sure you do your research: ask to see reports on past clients they have had, what ROI they brought in, and even ask to speak to past clients. Influencers can be great, but some will grow their following with fake followers, so don’t let a big number of followers impress you without proof of past ROI.

User Generated Content

Your social media strategy should include content of your product or service that is created by your users. This could be photos, videos or testimonials of your work. Social media users seek out products or services that are being appreciated by other users. “The best referral is a satisfied customer”, comes into play here. Encourage your customers and clients to post about your products or services that they love.

Instagram Stickers for Charities

While currently only in the US, in the next year, Instagram will roll out a new fundraising function for Canadian charities. You will have to prove you are a legal non-profit, but once that is done, you can include a sticker in your Instagram stories that your followers can click on to donate. The best part? You keep 100% of the donation. Once this this hits Canada we will let you know, so make sure to keep in touch.

Augmented Reality

You are probably aware of the dog faces and goofy filters people use on Instagram and Snapchat. Look for this to evolve! Sephora recently launched an AR platform on Facebook that allows users to try on make-up on themselves in the same way that you would put on a filter like dog ears and tongue. We are truly entering the World of Tomorrow!

Paid Ads

Platforms like Facebook offer targeting tools to target select and specific audiences who may be interested in your product or service. You can do this through boosting posts or going through the ad’s manager. We advise talking to a professional digital marketing firm like ourselves before you start. You can throw away a lot of money if you don’t know what you are doing.
