Social Media Management Explained by Edmonton Landmarks

February 28, 2020 • Social Media

At Digital Link, we manage businesses’ social media and often get asked, “How will this help my company, and what are the differences between all these platforms?” So, here is our guide to social media management, Edmonton-style!

Facebook = The Anthony Henday

It’s all around us, we all thought it was a good idea at the time, but now everyone is ANGRY!  We waste a lot of time on it before and after work- and someone decided it would be a good idea to collect our data!

Is Facebook for business?

Everyone is on Facebook, so of course it is good to have your business on it; however, you need to make sure you have a social media strategy for your Facebook page or group. On top of that, Facebook’s ability to target a potential customer is unlike anything we have ever seen.

Twitter = The Alberta Legislature

Did something just happen? Doesn’t matter, because now there is something new happening! Also, we’re just going to use short sound bites, but there are some people here who make great friends.

Is Twitter for business?

Twitter is a great place to engage with people on trends, news and everything in between. Search for people talking about news in your industry and jump in and show your knowledge.

Instagram = West Edmonton Mall

It’s glitzy, glamorous, and who hasn’t taken a selfie there? As an adult, you can take a trip down memory lane, and relive your youth. As a kid, there is always something to look at.

Is Instagram for business?

If you sell products or services that are visual, you should absolutely be on Instagram. The core user base on Instagram is younger than Facebook, but older than TikTok. Facebook owns Instagram so you can integrate your business accounts and advertise on Instagram using Facebook’s powerful Ads Manager.

TikTok = Beercade

There is lots happening, including music, games, and laughter. It looks like a lot of fun, but as you look closer, you realize you’re at least 30 years older than everyone else there.

Is TikTok for business?

TikTok is a video platform in which you create video content often accompanied by popular music. People can follow you, like, and share your videos

We’d suggest checking it out and having fun with it but the people on it are generally teens who most likely won’t be spending money on your service/products…. but their parents might!

LinkedIn = Stantec Tower

Big, bold, and a place to network with business professionals. This seems like a no-brainer.

Is LinkedIn for business?

LinkedIn allows for business pages to be created and ads to be made. But, most importantly, it allows you to brand yourself in a light that your connections may not know. If you coach your kid’s hockey team, give updates on how the team is doing. Chances are someone else’s kid plays hockey too!

We hope that helps you understand social media management for your business. At the end of the day, you need a social media strategy for any platform. Do you agree or disagree? Let us know on social media.
