Make Back to School Easier With These 6 Apps

August 31, 2023 • Product Reviews

If you or your kiddos are heading back to school and you’re wondering whether there’s a way to streamline the fall chaos, don’t worry. There’s an app for that!

Available for iPhone and Android, these six apps can help with everything from personal productivity to test preparation and skill improvement.

MyHomework

Term paper, diorama, lab report, oral presentation… Is there a way to keep them all straight?!

Enter MyHomework, a digital student planner, homework checklist and study reminder. MyHomework may not help you get top grades, but with instant access to assignments and due dates, it can certainly help you stay on top of upcoming papers, homework and tests. It’s highly rated as the perfect choice for students, parents, teachers and schools looking to improve student organization.

Khan Academy

With practice exercises, instructional videos and personalized learning, Khan Academy empowers learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. Tackle math, science, computer programming (ahem), history, art history, economics and more. Math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. Khan Academy also offers test preparation for such exams as the SAT, GMAT, LSAT and MCAT.

Quizlet

Quizlet helps you create flashcards, interactive diagrams, quizzes and games to reinforce learning concepts and test your knowledge. Short, actionable study sessions can help you track your progress, while adaptive study plans and notifications remind you when it’s time to focus.

Brainscape

Do you rely on flashcards but worry what might happen if you trip while running to catch the bus? Flashcards down a manhole or covered in mud certainly won’t help you pass that physics quiz!

Brainscape (sorry; iPhone only) serves up flashcards on your touchscreen, tailoring its timing to meet your learning needs. Pre-made sets of flashcards can help you learn foreign language vocabulary or world geography. Maybe you’ll even learn where the curb is next time so you won’t trip, or, if you do, you’ll have a whole new slew of curse words!

Duolingo

If muttering unintelligibly under your breath is your default whenever anyone suggests learning a new language, Duolingo may be the fun, engaging, addictive solution you need. Lessons include a variety of speaking, listening, translation and multiple choice challenges. Earn points for right answers and race against the clock. In-lesson grading lets you see instantly see which answers you get right. Multiple-choice challenges test how far you’ve come. When you miss a challenge, Duolingo quickly shows you how to improve.

EasyBib

Proper sourcing is vital to research, but who needs a mark deducted for every punctuation or style error? If the mere thought of creating a bibliography for your term paper makes you cringe, get EasyBib. Point your smartphone camera at a book’s bar code, and presto! You’re on your way to creating an accurate bibliography. What’s more, EasyBib also helps you easily check your paper for unintentional plagiarism, grammar, spelling errors and more.

We hope these apps help make the transition back to school a bit more seamless for the students in your life!
