Celebrating Community: A Look at Our 2026 Charity Spotlights

As we wrap up summer, and start looking toward to fall, it’s hard to believe we are over halfway through the year. Digital Link celebrated an important milestone this year, as we marked our five-year anniversary of our Charity Spotlight Series.

Heading into a new season, we wanted to do a summary of the charities we have featured in 2026 so far:

Variety – the Children’s Charity of Alberta (Variety Alberta) 

Variety Alberta is a non-disability-specific children’s charity that supports children and youth living with disabilities and specialized needs across Alberta. Their work is rooted in one simple but powerful belief: all children deserve the opportunity to play, participate, and be included in their communities. 

Their vision is to enable all children living with specialized needs to be an active and engaged part of their community.

Warrior’s Way Forward  

Warrior’s Way Forward was created from its founder Chelsea’s lived experiences with domestic violence. When she escaped, she expected safety to follow. Instead, she was faced with a veritable maze. She found herself navigating police, court, housing, safety planning and parenting, all while living in fear. She realized that victims are often expected to make life-altering decisions while experiencing trauma, and many systems struggle to recognize coercive control and escalating risk. 

Westlock Community Foundation 

The Westlock Community Foundation is the heart of the community in action. Albert and Florence Miller were beloved lifelong members of Westlock. They dedicated their lives to making the town a better place to live for everyone, spending their days volunteering, organizing community events, and lending a helping hand to those in need.  

The Millers left their estate to the Town of Westlock, ensuring the community they loved would thrive for generations to come. Their generous gift culminated in the creation of the Westlock Community Foundation, incorporated in 2021. 

Autism Edmonton

Autism Edmonton is Alberta’s oldest autism organization, serving the Edmonton region since 1971. For more than 50 years, they have been at the forefront of autism support in the province, walking alongside autistic individuals and families as the understanding of autism has evolved and deepened.

Founded by a group of passionate parents, the organization was built on a simple but powerful belief: no one should navigate autism alone.

South Edmonton Fellowship Centre 

Operated primarily by volunteers, the Fellowship Centre provides a safe and inclusive space where people can heal, learn, and support one another regardless of background, identity, or stage of recovery. 

The Fellowship Centre provides an infrastructure of mutual support. Many of the volunteers are individuals who have experienced addiction firsthand and have maintained recovery through continued service and connection.

ElderCare Edmonton 

ElderCare Edmonton is a non-profit organization that has supported seniors and adults living independently in Edmonton and surrounding communities since 1980. 

They provide recreational Adult Day Programs that promote social connection, physical activity, cognitive engagement, and meaningful friendships. Operating at six locations across Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, and Leduc, they also provide caregivers with valuable respite.
