Celebrating Five Years of Charity Spotlights

When Derrick first brought up the idea of featuring a charity each month on the blog, we were both excited about the opportunity to help spread the word about the amazing non-profits in, and around our community. Derrick has always been a strong proponent of giving back, and this was a simple yet meaningful way for us to connect with incredible people and support their causes. So, in 2021, we launched our Charity Spotlight! 

Five years later, we’ve had the privilege of sharing the stories of more than 60 charities and non-profits. From organizations supporting children and families to those advancing education, mental health, community development, and essential services, each spotlight has introduced us to people whose passion and dedication create meaningful change every day. 

It has been a pleasure to connect with the people behind these charities, all of whom have been incredibly grateful and excited to share what they do and the impact they are making. Listening to them talk about their passion, vision, and stories is a highlight for me each month and something that holds a special place in my heart.  

While each charity has its own unique mission, I have discovered many common threads that tie them all together. 

Community Makes a Difference

Behind every charity is a team of staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters committed to making life better for others. Time and again, we’ve seen how a small group of dedicated individuals can have an extraordinary impact on the people around them.  

In a world where the news is often filled with negativity, these Charity Spotlights shine a light on the good that exists and offer hope not only to the people they serve, but also to the broader community. 

Every Story Matters 

As a storyteller, my favourite part of our Charity Spotlight features is being able to share the story behind each organization. We get to look behind the curtain and hear about the people whose lives have been impacted by their work, and we can play a small role in amplifying their voices.  

Every charity serves a purpose, and with each individual, family, and community they support, they are making a significant difference in the lives of others. 

Looking Forward 

Over the past five years, we’ve had the opportunity to feature dozens of organizations, each with a unique mission and an important role in the communities they serve. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re grateful to every organization that has shared its work and impact with us.
